After being 3 years the director off the NDSM era, helping to build a professional community, to build “Selfmade City”, building an online agenda, working with all the local cultural platforms … I fell in love with Amsterdam North , and so I decided to cross the IJ, and about to start to build my own “Selfmade Home”.
The Idea
How far can we push “Selfmade Home”?
Not a secondhand home from a scrapyard… But to buy high quality materials on Ebay , to reuse and build a comfortable and extremely smart home and office .So to build it in the most sustainable way AND also keeping it affordable? Well it is a challenge… Buiding with many other neighbor Smart SelbBuilders on the New Amsterdam on which we all can be proud off! Why not buy second hand or brand new materials ? How many office/home constructions stalled in the housing crisis, so there must be tons off material at construction companies/sites, unassembled, bankrupt waiting to be (re) used. Can we find brand new construction parts on eBay for 80% off value ? Will transport be affordable? How to keep it for months in storage? Design the house and adapt the new walls around fixed already excisting measures of windows, stairs, doors. And still built a new sustainable, low energy , quality building on a more affordable way in a life time investment?
Amsterdam Zelfbouw / Selfmade
Amsterdam Noord gives space to build and design your own home and neigbourhood , in the way you want it, free from strictly rules only within city-national building guidelines. I took with 8 neighbours an option on a piece off land.. Started to travel with a Van through Holland, collecting building materials on base of which we started designing… And moved closer towards Buiksloterham 3
